Services & Techniques

At Vanderloo Chiropractic West, we take great pride in providing the finest chiropractic care to each and every patient. We have included information below about the different chiropractic services offered in our Portland chiropractic office, but please call us at 971-255-1922 if you have any questions!

Chiropractic Techniques

Dr. Vanderloo uses “low-force” chiropractic techniques that are very comfortable for the patients. He also uses an activator method which involves using an impulse instrument that gently adjusts the spine.  Dr. Vanderloo also performs electronic muscle stimulation, and intersegmental traction which helps with the soft tissue that surrounds the spine. The combination of chiropractic adjustments with these other therapies has provided much needed relief for patients with various conditions such as migraine headaches, sinus conditions, ear infections, colic, thyroid problems, asthma, allergies, acid reflux, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, IBS, ulcerative colitis, bed wetting and reproductive function. Dr. Vanderloo also takes care of many patients with neck pain, upper back pain, shoulder pain, rib pain, low back pain, and hip pain. Chiropractic adjustments can help with a wide variety of conditions because the nervous system controls every cell in the body. Chiropractic deals with taking pressure off the nervous system.

Corrective Exercises

At Vanderloo Chiropractic West, we teach our patients how to perform special "blueprint" exercises which can help strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. Many of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.

Lifestyle Advice

Many of our patients come to see our chiropractor to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or headaches. While our chiropractor will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, we often find it helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities that you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your particular health challenges. The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that are enjoyed most. We recognize that every single one of our patients is a whole person, and we use our expertise to help them reach total health and wellness.

Spinal & Postural Screenings

There is a saying that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Your spinal health is no exception. Posture and spinal screenings by a trained and experienced chiropractor such as Dr. Rich Vanderloo can help reveal important health information, unlocking the door to improved health and well-being. In order to help the Portland community, we provide screenings at area malls, community events, health fairs and places of employment. Contact us today at 971-255-1922 to arrange a screening at your event or workplace.

What's involved in a typical visit?

Each visit to Vanderloo Chiropractic West begins with a discussion of your personal health needs and how you can best be treated through chiropractic care. Then, a thorough examination will be performed, utilizing orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic tests. To help evaluate your condition, an x-ray may be taken. If so, Dr. Vanderloo will examine the x-rays and determine the severity of your condition and to evaluate if other pathologies are present that would be contradictory to treatment. Further testing may be needed to make the appropriate diagnosis. After Dr. Vanderloo has thoroughly evaluated your history, physical exam and x-rays, he will meet with you to discuss an individual treatment program designed to restore your physical capabilities.
